7th Sunday after Pentecost

CALL TO WORSHIP
Sing praises to the Name of God Most High.
We will praise the Lord with all our heart.
The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
We will tell of all the marvelous things God have done.
—from Ps. 9

OPENING PRAYER
We have responded to your call to gather here this morning, O God. Bless us with a reverent sense of your presence, that we may be at peace and worship you with all our mind and spirit. We pray this in the Name of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Eternal One, we praise you this morning for all your gifts to us, and we pray for your presence in our hearts and in our midst this morning.
We stand once again on the threshold of a new week, O God of our lives. Help each of us gathered here this morning to see promise in the days ahead.
Put us in a summer mood. Turn our attention to the sun in the sky, the beauty of the green grass, and the yards full of flowers.
May our senses remind us of your love, for you are the Creator of all that is beautiful in our lives.
As we glimpse your splendor in the world around us, catch us off guard this week. Break through our boredom, our smugness, and our indifference. Overcome our defenses, and remind us that our lives are amazing because of you are with us. Help us to see your greatness in ourselves, and help us to see your greatness in each other— in those we love, in those who don’t know, even in those we try to avoid.
Send your Spirit, inspire us to lift up our needs to you, to pray for our loved ones, and to remember the world and its people. Speak to us in the silence, even as we now speak to you…
[A silence is kept.]
Thank you, loving Creator, that you hear our prayers, for we offer them to you in the Name of Jesus Christ, who with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, God forevermore. Amen.

COMMUNION PRAYER
We thank you, Eternal God, for your love shown to us in creation, in the guidance of law and prophets, and in sacred community. And now we pray that your Holy Spirit will settle on these gifts, that when we share the bread and cup, we may know the depth of your love expressed in the life, death, and resurrection of your Son. As we remember the cross, help us to live lives committed to serving you and our neighbor. May your Spirit unite us, grant us courage, and fill us with such hope that we share your love with the world around us; in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
