In the darkest days of winter, O Eternal One,
when the earth is cold as iron,
we joyfully greet the birth of your Son.
With faith, we grow with him,
and—even in the midst of death—make his life part of our own.
In the brightest days of summer,
when your gentleness blesses the land—
when flowers blossom, birds sing, and bees buzz;
as the leaves offer their shade
and the grass grows more quickly than we can cut it—
we feel the warmth of your Son
during these days when it seems that night will never come.
But all things have their season and all flesh must come to an end.
Yet you promise us a new heaven and a new earth,
a creation redeemed by your Son, Jesus Christ.
Prepare us for your kindom;
help us to work while it is day,
embrace your will, and live into your peace.
For even as the days shorten, we know that three things will remain:
Faith, hope, and love; and the greatest of these is love.
For all these things we pray
in Name of love, even Jesus Christ our Lord,
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,
God forevermore. Amen.
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,
God forevermore. Amen.
