O Eternal King,
we rejoice with the company
that welcomed you into Jerusalem,
yet we confess
that we also understand all too well
the crowd that yelled “Crucify!”
We hail you as king
with shouts of “Hosanna!”
yet we look on in silence
as you are crowned with thorns.
We promise you our allegiance,
yet we often find ourselves denying you
with our words or our actions.
Forgive us our inconstancy.
Grant us courage to face the days ahead;
and give us faith to see the joy behind the fear,
and life beyond death.
In your Name we pray. Amen.
