I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts.
✙ Psalm 119:94

Today's verse reminds me of the Heidelberg Catechism (1563) which begins with this question: "What is your only comfort in life and in death?" The answer: "That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ."To be a person of faith, then, is to know I belong. I belong to God, who saves me. God's word is alive in me, and that is what gives me life. When I seek God and feel God's presence within, I am moved to pray. And yet, God is greater than I am, and does not depend on my feelings. So especially when I seek God and do not feel like I can find God, I should pray even harder. Such a God will never abandon me based on my moods or feelings or emotions. But like the most loving Parent in the world, will stick with me through thick and thin.
It is to such a God as this that I can confidently say, "I belong."

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
✙
Imprint upon my heart, O God, that because I belong to you no one can pluck me from your hand, and because I fear you I need fear no other.
